WORKPLACE RECOGNITION: ARE EMPLOYER AWARDS WORTH IT?
The rising of employer brand and celebrating innovative workplaces
92% of people would consider changing jobs to a company with an excellent reputation, even with no salary increase.
Let me translate that into English for you: 92% of people are ready to switch jobs for a company with a killer reputation— even if it means surviving on office snacks and second-rate coffee. Talk about priorities!
Now picture this: you are losing your best employee not because of the paycheck, but because your employer branding is sprinting for gold in the ‘‘Least Appealing Workplace’’ category.
So, where do you even start building the employer brand when you don’t have the resources to hire someone to elevate your employer experience?
It all starts with… drumrolls, please… your people. Who needs a fancy Marketing team when your employees are the real MVPs?
Internal Surveys
Start by conducting internal surveys to understand how your employees perceive your company. You can’t survey people without proving that you are doing your best to support them.
And let’s be real, employee benefits will be an important piece of your employer brand. We are past the times when people are just ‘‘happy to have a job’’.
Here’s what your employees are secretly dreaming about:
prioritize flexible work environment because creativity doesn’t punch in at 9 AM sharp for everyone
maybe move to a fully remote workplace- the pandemic taught us that pajamas are the new business casual
consider a 4-day workweek- who needs five when you can conquer the world in four?
offer a parental leave- because parental leave is not a break from work, it’s a crash course in sleepless nights
offer paid industry certifications
offer a sabbatical after 4-5 years of employment- because even Batman needs to fully disconnect for a year!
consider an unlimited paid time off - because, hey, who’s counting?
Stop playing the guessing game. Ask your people what they want.
Employee Reviews
Here’s a CEO’s nightmare ‘‘Candidates trust the employees three times more than they trust what the CEO says’’.
So, what’s the plan? Get those company profiles up on Glassdoor, Comparably, BuiltIn, and Indeed. Motivate your employees to share their insights by writing reviews about their experiences with the company.
Employer Awards
There are two ways to receive an award or nomination for the best place to work: through self-nomination and based on published employee feedback.
All self-nomination options necessitate the completion of an employee survey. Some are free, while others require a participation fee. Anticipate spending more than two weeks to fulfill all the requirements.
